While the mighty Silverback Gorillas in Bwindi and the Wilderbeest migration in Kenya are incredible experiences, a journey through Uganda reveals a treasure trove of lesser-known destinations that offer just as much adventure and cultural richness. At Holiday People Ltd, we craft experiences that inspire and rejuvenate, and our passion for adventure comes from having explored over 40 destinations ourselves. Let us help you design your next holiday by discovering some of Uganda’s hidden gems.
Sipi Falls
Located at the base of Mount Elgon, Sipi Falls is not just one waterfall but a series of three magnificent cascades. The hike to see all three falls takes about three hours and offers stunning views of coffee plantations and Lake Kyoga. Sipi is a paradise for adventurers, offering activities such as abseiling, mountain biking, and rock climbing. You can also take nature walks through the villages to meet the local Sabiny and Bagisu people, learning about their culture and the process of growing Arabic coffee from plant to cup.
Semliki Hot Springs
Located in Semliki National Park, these hot springs are a truly remarkable natural attraction. There are two main springs, one male and one female, both boiling at over 100°C (212°F). In fact, the water is so hot that you can boil eggs and bananas in the pools! Locals believe the springs have powers to bring wealth and heal diseases. The trek to the springs also offers the chance to spot red-tailed monkeys and black-and-white colobus monkeys.
Murchison Falls and Park
As the name suggests, the main attraction here is the Murchison Falls, where the entire Nile River is forced through a narrow 7-meter gorge. The powerful cascade of water is a mesmerizing sight, creating a loud roar and a cloud of mist. The park itself is home to 76 mammal species and 451 bird species, and you can spot elephants, giraffes, lions, and hippos on a game drive or boat safari on the Nile. We offer boat rides on the River Nile and the biggest fresh water lake, Lake Victoria.
Zziwa Rhino Camp
For a unique wildlife experience, visit Zziwa Rhino Camp, the only place in Uganda where you can see rhinos in the wild. The sanctuary was established in 2005 to reintroduce the southern white rhinoceros after they became extinct in Uganda by 1982. You can go on a guided rhino trekking tour on foot, where a team of rangers keeps watch on the rhinos 24/7. The ranch is also home to other animals and numerous bird species, making it a perfect stop on your journey.
Lake Mburo National Park
As Uganda’s smallest savannah national park, Lake Mburo is a great place to see wildlife and experience a unique walking safari. Because the park has no lions, it is safe to explore the plains on foot with a ranger guide. You can see zebras, impalas, giraffes, buffaloes, and a variety of bird species. A nature walk to the salt lick area is a highlight, where animals gather to lick the salty rocks.
Kidepo National Park
Located in Uganda’s remote northeast, Kidepo Valley National Park is a hidden treasure known for its dramatic landscapes and diverse wildlife, including lions, cheetahs, and leopards. The park is home to the Kanangorok Hot Springs, and you can also visit the nomadic Ik people on Mount Morungole. It is the ideal place for a truly authentic safari experience.
